The back story
Hospitals have to be at their best every day to manage, treat and care for patients. In their work, every day is a matter of life and death. And yet they face huge and complex societal challenges. Firstly, populations are rapidly ageing and there are more chronic illnesses, such as cancer and diabetes. This has stretched the healthcare system way beyond its limits. The role technology can play to support healthcare delivery both inside and outside the hospital is viewed as increasingly important. Not only in saving time and costs, but also improving patient health outcomes.
In 2018, the health technology company Philips embarked on a global brand campaign focusing on its health systems business. To support the campaign it wanted a series of intimate customer stories showing how its technology helps radiology departments diagnose patients. The brand stories focused on a number of US hospitals, including Phoenix Children’s Hospital in Arizona.
As part of a creative team we developed a series of healthcare customer stories using authentic and intimate storytelling. The series consisted of research, articles, films, podcasts and photography. Each piece of content was connected on the Philips brand platform. The content was used globally in advertising and media campaigns.
A short film about pediatric care
Any production is a battle between time, opportunity and logistics. And one of the most difficult places to film a customer story is a hospital. For a number of reasons. There are always patients around, in varying states of comfort. There is patient information, strict US privacy legislations and healthcare employees who have little time to spend on telling their story. Working alongside Philips and Spindle, a UK-based production company, we worked on storylines, interviews and ideas to bring to life through film the daily work of the radiology department at a US paediatric hospital.
